The thing I don't like about cakefarts is that, not only is it something that not all of us are into, it was something people were treating like "the next 2girls1cup." In fact, some people even called it 1girl1cake.

My main problem with it is that it gave people who didn't know about the fart fetish a bad introduction to the fetish. People who watched it assume most of us are into cakefarts or something, when in the poll, most of us preferred our farts away from food. Besides, as it's been stated in a few threads already, the less mainstream our fetish is, the better: after all, if more people hear about it, more people will get preconceived judgments thinking it's gross and people who have it are sick in the head or something. Luckily, though, I don't think our fetish will really ever become very mainstream since a fart fetish is a somewhat rare one.

Yeah it will never be mainstream but people like these cakefart assholes, who most likely made no money on the clips themselves unless they made money through advertisements from site hits, will take our fetish to the mainstream as a spectacle.
Also the dipshits who raid every youtube girl who posts a video of her farting brings us to light but in a negative way.
So everyone knows about us now because of things like that and some fart companies trying to go mainstream like doing radio shows or talk shows to advertise.
We basically started off bad.
It's hard for us who have had a pretty good gig when the fart fetish wasn't known.
Now you're a perv everytime you bring up farts.

I wouldn't go as far to say it's as widely known as you say it is. It's definitely more known than it used to be, but from what I can gather, it's still relatively unknown. I agree that people on Youtube have especially been doing things that give us negative attention, but I'm sure most of the people who look up fart videos on Youtube are people who have our fetish (aside from people who simply think farting is funny). Fart fetishism isn't exactly that well known. None of my friends know about my fetish (and hopefully they'll never find out lol) but they have heard of things like scat, foot fetishism, shoe fetishism, BDSM, bestiality, furries, and a lot of other well-known ones. Fart fetishism isn't exactly widely known, as far as I'm concerned. After all, on Wikipedia's list of fetishes they don't include ours, most likely due to how rare it is (I remember a few years back there was even a Wikipedia article about eproctophilia but it wound up being deleted since the only source it had was James Joyce's love letters).

I don't really blame Youtube for our fetish becoming more popular; the Internet as a whole seems to make fetishes more well-known. After all, aside from Youtube, there's plenty of other things like people who make fart drawings and stories on sites like Deviantart and Writing.com. On top of that, some people who might be curious about stuff like why people fart or just want to find something with fart jokes might somehow stumble upon sites like this using a search engine. We can't pin it down to just one site or group of people; since the Internet is constantly growing in popularity, so will the awareness of stuff like fetishism (and not just farts, there's plenty of fetish stuff on sites like Youtube and Deviantart, too).

The Internet is a double-edged sword like that: on one hand, it exposes people without our fetish to it in an often "bad" way (ie: cakefarts and creepy youtube comments), but on the other hand, it lets us find people who share our fetish. After all, before I knew about sites like this, I thought I was the only person in the world with a fart fetish, but now I'm glad to know I'm not alone. Besides, one can hope that once people find out a fart fetish (as well as most other fetishes) are fairly common and harmless, people might eventually stop making such a big deal out fetishism and start being more open minded about it.

I like your attitude about it, well spoken and a more positive outlook on the whole thing.
I do fear it will only get more known in a negative manner if this keeps up.
People talk, and being harrassed by a guy who has a fart fetish is definately a conversation piece.
basically everybody I know pretty much knows about the fart fetish (unknowing of mine of course)
The reason they know is not because they had a sexual interest in it, they know because of finding things on it that are not fart fetish related.
Like when people tag irrelevant shit to get people to look at fart porn.
Or just by randomly posting up a video of them or a friend of theirs farting, and then the horde of zombies come trampling in with perv comments and begging them to fart in their faces.
It's funny or creepy to an outsider, so word spreads negatively about us.
Yeah it's not hugely known now, but it is a lot more known than a couple years back. Just imagine a couple of years from now.
the fart fetish is pretty known. But it's a big joke and will most likely never be taken seriously. Just written off as creepy or a laugh in the face.
Some (including myself) have been fortunate to find the right girl who is open minded by this.
But it is few and far between.
We had a good run going with girls being more open about farting than they used to.
Now they seem to be afraid of it again not out of humiliation, but out of fear of having a stalker.
These idiots on youtube are an epidemic imo.

I think I just taught myself to ignore Youtube comments. I very rarely read them anymore because most of them are stupid not only on fart videos, but also on most other videos: something about decency, common sense, and intelligence seems to go out the window when it comes to Youtube comments. I just hope (though it's probably false hope) that people realize we're not all creepy weirdos that leave perverted comments on a video just because a girl farted. Like I said in another thread, in the rare instance that I do leave a comment, it's something along the lines of "that was a good one." Something that shows that I liked the video, but nothing that hints at having a fart fetish.

The same thing works with girls offline, too: just as long as you act like you don't mind when she farts, she'll think you're just being nice until you're ready to tell her how you really feel about it. You can also work with the middle ground for a while and start saying things like you think it's "cute" when she farts, but don't come out and say it's a fetish or anything; just wait for her to fart near you and after she does it, laugh and tell her it was cute. She might think you're joking since you were laughing but it's still something that, from my experiences, makes girls more comfortable with farting.

Back to the topic at hand, I think our main problem is people like IONLYDOGIRLZ and his other literally dozens of names: not only does he say crap like "omg your farts gave me a huge boner," he leaves multiple comments like that on a lot of videos. Those idiots should realize those girls are not going to fart in their face for them: she probably lives really far away and farting on a stranger isn't exactly something that'd appeal to her.

I think there's a few things we can do to get him to stop. For one, is there a way to report bad comments or file a complaint about a user? If so, we should do it to him and everyone else that leaves dirty comments. Also, if anyone here has a channel for fart videos, when you upload videos, either disallow comments or use the feature where you have to approve a comment before it's published to filter out the perviness. Sure, it'll only work for your videos, but if someone just wants to look up a fart video for the humor factor, at least they won't have to be disturbed by the weird comments. And for the more obvious choice, every time you see him or someone like him leaving those comments, give him a thumbs down or mark it as spam. People usually filter comments to show things that aren't downrated and usually won't click on spam, so, while some people might change their settings to view all comments and read the spam out of morbid curiousity, a good portion of people will be "saved" from reading his dirty comments.
